Regularly scheduled routine exams from our Torrance Companion Animal Hospital veterinary team focuses on preventative care to ensure that your pet is in good health.
Preventive Care
Wellness exams are key to maintaining your pet's good health throughout their life.
When combined with regular vaccinations, parasite prevention and proper nutrition, routine physical examinations of your beloved pet give them the best chance at excellent lifelong health.
When you bring your pet in for their regular checkup, we can find and halt the development of health issues when they are most treatable, as well as stop many conditions from ever developing in the first place.
What to Expect During Your Pet's Physical
One of our vets will give your pet a complete physical exam to get a good picture of their overall health. An exam usually includes the following elements:
General Condition
Your pet's behavior and general demeanor can provide clues about their overall health. The way they stand and walk, how alert they are and their weight can all be helpful indicators for our vets of what your pet's overall health might be.
Coat & Skin
We will check our pet's skin and coat for any signs of health issues. These could include lumps, bumps, dandruff, excessive oiliness or dryness and abnormal shedding or hair loss.
Face & Head
Your pet's ears, nose and eyes will be examined for abnormalities like discharge. We will also check your pet's mouth for the signs of oral health problems like periodontal disease or plaque buildup.
Internal Health
Your pet's heart health is dramatically affected by their heart rate, its rhythm, their blood pressure and pulse. We will test all of these to make sure they are at normal levels. We will them examine their lungs for any abnormalities in their breathing
Lymph nodes will be checked for pain or swelling, and we will also examine the abdomen to ensure the intestines, kidneys, bladder, spleen, liver and stomach all feel normal, and that your pet is not exhibiting any signs of discomfort.
Checkups for Puppies & Kittens
In your puppy or kitten's first few weeks of life, they will need proper medical attention to set them on a track for a healthy, happy life.
We will provide your new family members a complete physical exam, proper immunizations, and deworming medications. We will also test for intestinal parasites. We will provide you with a kitten or puppy kit which will be full of helpful resources and educational materials for caring for your new pet.
Ensure that you contact us with any concerns or questions you might have about caring for your new pet, at your appointments and after.
Once your puppy or kitten's checkup is complete, you'll return periodically for his or her required booster shots.
Senior Pet Checkup
With recent advancements in veterinary medical care, knowledge, nutrition and therapies, our pets are living longer than they ever have before.
As your pet ages, regular examinations become increasingly crucial to ensure their continuing health and longevity.
On top of routine wellness exams and procedures that we perform on our adult patients, we make sure to give special attention to senior pets' possible age-related conditions like arthritis or reduced vision. Additional laboratory tests will also provide information about your pet's overall health.
Vaccinations & Prevention
Our veterinarians will ask you about required preventative care during your pet's routine exam and check to see if they are due for any vaccinations.
